The Book of the Film(s)

A few days ago I received the proof copy of the book I am making of Other Histories with the online publisher Blurb. As you can see from the picture below I have gone trough the proof copy and made notes (the yellow post-its) on the adjustments that need to be made, mostly it is just changes to the image brightness and contrast and on some pages the position of the image on the page. I am now also working on some text to go at the back of the book that will act as an index to the images. I want to avoid putting a description of each picture next to the actual image in the book, but equally I think it would be interesting for the veiwer to be able to find out a bit more about the place/object that I have chosen to photograph.

Sorry if it seems like I have vanished from the blog of late, I know how tiring it is when a blog goes quiet for a few weeks – but time is just flying by. It was about this time last year that I was going through the process of applying for this residency, it seems like such a long time ago.

Last week I met with Alex Drago ( of the Tower of London Education Dept) at the ‘newish’ Photographers Gallery in London for an informal catch up about the project. It was very good to see him and after a quick coffee we went over to the Tower briefly. It’s been a few weeks since I last visited the offices of the Towers Education Department and it was nice to see the familiar faces of the people I saw so often while working on my photographs.

Everyone that I met while working on the project (from all areas of the Tower) was always very friendly, helpful and went out of their way to assist me in making my photographs of their Tower (even when what I was photographing didn’t seem to make much sense), I would like to use this post to thank all of them for making my time at the Tower of London such pleasant and thoroughly interesting time.

Meanwhile the project is still moving along (all be it in a less visible fashion), plans for the exhibition are taking place – no fixed date yet but probably near the end of this year. I am promoting the project through other sources and hoping to show some of the work in various group exhibitions around the country and possibly abroad. I am also working on a small book of the project which (all going well) will be available at the time of the exhibition.
